It focuses on Western dress and style and how it has changed over time. The exhibit is only open until October 2nd of this year! It is great for kids, with many interactive features. See how you look trying on an assortment of cowboy hats. Why not sit on a saddle and take a picture to look like a real cowboy or cowgirl? "Dressed Just Right" is actually what Teddy "Blue" Abbott said when he put on his first cowboy outfit ("that he was dressed just right for the first time"). The working cowboy dressed a lot different from the styles you often see at Western fashion shows today, or in hollywood, but now it is all a part of Western style and the spirit of the American West. At the exhibit, see how Western dress developed from function to flamboyance. Dr. Laurel Wilson is a professor of textiles and apparel at the University of Missouri. She grew up on a real ranch in Montana. This is how she began her interest in Western dress. In the 8th grade, she really wanted to look like a cowgirl. Some of the earliest roots of Western style come from fur trappers and Native Americans. This was incorporated with the dress of working cowboys in the West for posed photographs and in Buffalo Bill's Wild West.
